In the past many Northern European customers of Shopify have had a bit of a problem with the service: a lack of payment options to offer to their own customers. However, thanks to the relatively recent changes this situation has now gotten much better. Shopify now offers for their users both Klarna and Paytrail payment options. Klarna is an extremely popular payment option, for example, in Sweden and Paytrail is extremely popular in Finland. It is good to note that at least at this stage both Klarna and Paytrail are available only for certain countries.
Klarna (officially Klarna Bank A/B) is one of most successful Swedish financial technology companies and has grown extremely rapidly since it was founded back in 2005. The company has raised more than $600 million in funding.
Paytrail is a Finnish financial technology company of which 80% was acquired by the Danish Nets Group in 2014. Nets has a history going all the way back to 1968, but the “Nets” name has been used only since 2010. The company’s stock is listed in the Copenhagen stock exchange, meaning that anyone can buy a part of the company.
It is extremely pleasant and re-assuring to see that the despite of their immensely powerful market position Shopify continues to improve their service and think about how their customers could become even more successful.
